Independence Offers Active Adult Community

The community of Independence, Ocean Atlantic’s active adult, 55- plus community, located in Millsboro had its model court grand opening Sept 29.

More than 300 current and poten-tial buyers from across the Mid-Atlantic region attended. “ I am looking forward to the active lifestyle that Independence offers,” said Lynn Harman, buyer at Independence. “ We can’t wait to be a part of a community where we can meet other people who are interested in the same things we are.”

Preston Schell, president of Ocean Atlantic Associates, and Chris Schell, president of Schell Brothers, spoke to the group about their personal commitment to attention and detail at the community. “It is our goal to create a community that provides a distinctive level of comfort, convenience and fun for its homeowners,” said Preston Schell. “ This is Ocean Atlantic’s first active adult com-munity and we have devoted time and energy developing homes and a continuous activities schedule to embrace our buyers’ dynamic lifestyles.”

Realtors wrote 17 home reser-vations the day of the grand open-ing. “ Participation at this event was amazing,” said Vaughn Melson, project manager and development partner for Independence. “ This proves that it is still the time to buy new homes and the active adult buyers are leading the way in continuing to strengthen the market.”

The community of Independence is located on Route 5. Homes will feature stepless entry, first floor master bedrooms, single floor living and maintenance free living with yards maintained by the community, among many other upgrades.

Offering single- family home/ lot packages starting in the $200,000's, Independence will also feature residents’ activities including walking trails, tennis courts, putting green, horseshoe pits, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center and yoga studio as well as an onsite activities director to coordinate club events.
